Zotrim is the first clinically proven herbal slimming aid with the scientific backing of a double blind, placebo controlled study conducted in Denmark, using 47 subjects. The results of this study are being published in The British Dietetic Association Journal on 1 June 2001 and now a new study being published in the Journal of Nutrition and Food Science 20 February 2004. It shows, according to Dr Carrie Ruxton, who conducted the study, that the preparation could provide extra motivation for slimmers plagued by hunger pangs. "It promotes a physical feeling of fullness caused by a delay in the emptying of contents from the stomach. It means the brain is getting signals that the stomach is fuller for longer which leads to less food being eaten at main meals and a cut in snacking."Two tablets taken before each meal with a glass of water, in overweight subjects, had the effect of producing a feeling of fullness more quickly and stayed feeling full for longer than usual (no restrictive diet regimen was required). A parallel study, using ultrasound scanning, discovered that Zotrim delayed the rate at which the stomach emptied - on average by twenty minutes! After 45 days, the 50% of the subjects that took Zotrim lost an average of 11lbs, compared to under a pound in those taking the placebo.
Further, twenty-two of the subjects continued to take the formula for 12 months. Not only did their weight loss stabilise with no yo-yo gain or loss effect, there was no continual loss of weight beyond the normal healthy weight index. This dispelled concern that taking Zotrim in the long term might cause continued weight loss to an undesirable degree, suggesting Zotrim as a valuable aid for long term weight maintenance.

This is the first time a non-drug herbal preparation has been shown in a full clinical trial to have an effect on weight. Said Dr Anthony Leeds, Senior Lecturer in Nutrition at King's College London: "At a time when overweight and obesity are rising in prevalence, all possible approaches to weight reduction and maintenance need to be examined objectively. These results are encouraging, especially with the evidence for delayed gastric emptying."
